Event Director of the Otter African Trail Run presented by Salomon & Gu Mark Collins described the route for this year’s 11km Dassie Run as “absolutely magnificent.” The Dassie Run is the iconic Otter Run’s baby brother; a short trail run in the 10km class that run in association with the main event on the day of the Otter Run itself but Collins feels that the course for this year’s Dassie makes it is a bespoke event in its own right. “I’ve done a lot of trail runs and this year’s Dassie course is second to none.”
The Dassie starts at 8am on the 22nd of September in Natures Valley and participants are expected to take one to two and a half hours to complete the course which includes a wide variety of all trail types and nearly 350 meters of climbing. “Beach, pebbles, rock slabs, steep stepped climbs and descents, root tangled forest trails, river courses, boardwalks and breath-taking beautiful fynbos fringed open paths.” “It’s all there, even a floating bridge,” enthused Collins who tested the route on the weekend. “Parts of this year’s Dassie Route are just as technically demanding as those of the Otter Trail.”
